Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons, the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has become a key part of the roster in just four seasons. Despite having a long career ahead of him, the 26-year-old is already planning for the future after his retirement.
Micah Parsons recently sat down for an interview with Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban. During the discussion with the 6.5 billion entrepreneur (as per Celebrity Net Worth), the 4x Pro Bowler revealed that he is focusing on building his own business empire after retirement.
In the clip shared on social media, Parsons and Cuban go head-to-head in a chess match. The Cowboys star then opens up that he is trying to build himself as a brand so that he can still be successful after hanging up his cleats.

"I'm building myself for when I'm done with this game that doesn't last long," Parsons said.

He also shared a piece of advice he once got from NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, something which really stuck with him and pushed him to follow this path.
"One thing Shaq told me. He was like, "Bro, I only go into things and put my name on things that I love." And I was like, "All right, well, I love kids, I love giving back, you know, I love podcasting because I love getting my pay. I hate that we allowed the media to get all the control, the Cowboys star added.
In August 2024, the Cowboys picked up the fifth-year option on Micah Parsons' rookie contract. However, this offseason has been about how he is deserving of a new deal after his contributions on the field.
NFL.com's Tom Blair voiced his support for Parsons receiving a new contract.
"Just three guys since 1960s have collected 50-plus sacks, nine-plus passes defended and nine-plus forced fumbles in their first four pro seasons, and Parsons is one of them," Blair said.
Despite the contract dispute, the 4x Pro Bowler has confirmed that he will be present during the team's minicamp. However, Parsons also stated that the negotiations for a new deal are now in the hands of owner Jerry Jones.
NFL analyst expresses dissatisfaction with Micah Parsons' contract situation
The DE did not participate in the second week of the team's OTAs. Following his absence, analyst Mike Florio expressed his discontentment with the team's handling of the situation.
He criticised the Cowboys' business decisions and highlighted how they saw a similar situation play out with the contract extensions of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
"The Cowboys continue to misplay the situation," Florio wrote. "They drag their feet. And the price goes up. And the player is less prepared when it's time to go play games that count. It's a ridiculous way of doing business. But the Cowboys keep repeating the pattern."
"It became obvious last year, when the Cowboys were on the front end of (again) waiting too long and then paying too much for receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott. Cowboys management is clueless when it comes to managing young talent."
With the rise in market valuation, Micah Parsons is projected to land a deal that pays him over $40 million a year. He could potentially become the highest-paid DE while surpassing the recent four-year $160 million deal inked by Browns star Myles Garrett.
