They drafted Aliyah Boston as the No. 1 overall selection in the 2023 WNBA Draft. In 2024, they drafted Caitlin Clark with the first pick in the draft that year, carrying on the trend towards a new era.

Indiana Fever History

Ad

The Indiana Fever were established in 2000 after the WNBA announced four expansion teams on June 7, 1999, with one of them being in Indiana. The opening was simultaneous with the opening of Gainbridge Fieldhouse, which housed both the Fever and the NBA's Indiana Pacers.

The team struggled during its early seasons but took a major step forward by drafting Tamika Catchings with the third overall pick of the 2001 WNBA Draft. Catchings proved to be the franchise cornerstone for the Fever as they built a solid team around her.

In their 24-year existence as a franchise, the Fever have made the Finals thrice in 2009, 2012, and 2015 and won the championship in 2012. In the 2012 WNBA Finals, the Fever beat the Lynx 3-1. In 2024, the Fever hit the draft lottery by drafting Caitlin Clark number one overall in the 2024 WNBA draft. Clark looks to be the savior of a struggling team, and as the WNBA gains more eyeballs with the entry of Caitlin Clark, the Fever looks to capitalize on it and be counted among the best teams in the league.

The Indiana Fever's logo, introduced in 2000, was designed by Todd Radom, a seasoned graphic designer with experience working for various sports franchises. The logo is inspired by a "retro feel" that references back to something like the 'Hoosiers' era in Indiana basketball, according to Radom's official posts.

In the early years of the franchise, the Fever's home jerseys were white with red, dark blue, and yellow accents and featured "Fever" across the chest. Now, the primary jerseys have a navy background with red and gold trim, the team's colors. For the 2023 season, the Fever released a new WNBA Nike Rebel Edition jersey. This design honored historic moments in the franchise's history, including the signing of Title IX and the franchise's 2012 WNBA championship. The "Basketball Chose Me" logo on the uniform belt buckle referenced Tamika Catchings' Hall of Fame speech, as stated on the WNBA official website.
